Child Injured in Alma Hit & Run Accident
A 7-year-old girl was injured Monday afternoon after a car’s driver hit her and drove away, according to Alma Police Chief Russell White.
Chief White said officers are looking for a white man driving a silver vehicle believed to have damage to the front bumper and hood. The vehicle may be a Pontiac, the chief said.
The girl was walking in the 1200 block of Seals Street in Alma Monday afternoon when she was hit by the car. Family say the victim is Charlee Wright. The child was thrown on the hood of the car and onto the windshield, Chief White said.
An eyewitness said the car hit the girl in the back before she fell to her knees. “He like peeked his head out the window and was like sorry and then took off doing like 90,” said Katie Shackelford, an eyewitness.
The girl was taken to the hospital with what’s believed to be non-life threatening injuries, according to the chief. Family members said they expect the girl to be OK.
“She’s got bumps, bruises, scrapes and all that, but no broken bones no internal bleeding,” said Aero Schaub, the victim’s sister. “She’s gonna be fine.”
A neighbor says she has seen the suspect before and even called police about his driving.
“He drives up and down this street constantly going 30, 40, 50 miles an hour every single day,” said Diane Hawkins, an eyewitness.
