Drunk Driver Caught After Injuring Motorcyclist, Police Say
A 20-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning after police said he injured a motorcyclist with his Mazda Miata and drove off drunk.
Eyewitness told police a silver Miata rear-ended a motorcycle as the biker was trying to park on Dickson Street. The motorcyclist was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Officers later located the hit-and-run vehicle, with Skyler Lee Darling lying drunk on the ground next to the car, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.
Darling told police he was at the Dickson Street Theatre and asked a friend to drive him home, although he could not recall the friend’s name, the report states. Darling said he told the friend to keep driving after the collision since he did not have insurance, according to the report.
Darling faces charges of felony leaving the scene of an injury accident, no proof of insurance, following too close, no driver’s license and reckless driving. He was released from the Washington County Detention Center on Monday on $4,170 bond, according to the jail website.
