The Dangers of Misusing Blow Dart Guns

Rogers police arrested two people this week for allegedly shooting women with blow gun darts.

Rogers police arrested two people this week for allegedly shooting women with blow gun darts.

An employee and hunter at the Tackle Box in Fort Smith tested out a blow dart gun for 5NEWS on Tuesday.

“I don't think this would be good for hunting anything really, just putting things through a lot of pain,” said Tyler Adamson.

Rogers police arrested Jeremy Hendrix, 18, and William Goines, 17, on felony battery charges. They are accused of shooting two women with blow gun darts. One landed in a lady’s neck and the other in a woman’s back.

“You wouldn't hear it coming,” said Adamson. “If you do hear it it's too late.”

Adamson tested the blow dart gun from 10 yards and again from about 15 yards away. He hit the plastic target.

“I would guess if it sticks in this bag this far it'll definitely stick in your skin and it would hurt,” said Adamson.

The dart moves fast and is difficult to follow.

“You wouldn't be able to dodge it,” said Adamson. “I mean it's moving pretty quick.”

The packaging on the gun says do not point or shoot it at any living thing. It also reads unsafe use may cause severe injuries or death. The packaging on the gun recommends people consult law enforcement before shooting.
