Fayetteville Volleyball Eyes State Title

The Volleyball team at Fayetteville High School has seen a lot of success over the past few years and a big part of their success is this year`s senior class.

The Volleyball team at Fayetteville High School has seen a lot of success over the past few years and a big part of their success is this year`s senior class.

"The senior class we have this year at Fayetteville is certainly one of the most decorated class of athletes in the history of not only the volleyball program but the school." Said Coach Jessica Phelan.  "They've had a great deal of success as both sophomores and juniors."

Success is exactly what this group of seniors has had while at Fayetteville.  They have won two conference championships and made two trips to the state championship game, but unfortunately fell just short of the state title both times.  This year`s senior class is ready to come together and finally win that coveted title.

"Our Senior Class has a lot of love for each other." Said Senior Libero Andrea Kathol.  "We've been playing together for a really long time and so this year it's finally all clicking.  We all have one common goal of winning that state championship game"

The team is currently ranked #1 in the state and is off to a 22-2 start with their only two losses coming against out of state opponents.  While every member of the team plays a vital role in the team`s success, setter Aubrey Wilson is a major component.  She is a two-time all-state player and has committed to Ole Miss to play volleyball next fall.

"She is a great setter, anything she wants to do she can accomplish." Said Senior Setter Paige Gocke of her classmate.  "Ole Miss is a great school and its amazing knowing that one of your good friends is going there."

Aubrey was recruited by many different colleges, but in the end she chose Ole Miss because of the similarities the team and coaches had with her high school experience.

"I really liked the coaches and the team chemistry was awesome." Said Aubrey about Old Miss.  "I`m looking forward to playing at the next level.  It`s a faster pace game and I`m excited to play at that level"

Aubrey and the team continue their quest to a conference and state title Thursday when they head to Rogers High School.
