Cedarville Righting The Ship
The 2012 season couldn’t have arrived quickly enough for the Cedarville Pirates.
Cedarville went 0-10 in 2011 and scored just 67 points. Those days are gone. What has arrived is almost like a ship seeing land for the first time in months.
“We were better prepared,” Cedarville senior Dakota Thorman said. “At the end of last year when we played Lavaca, we hit it hard in the weight room, 24-7. We came up in the summer and we had an average of 50 kids each day and just hard work every time.”
The Pirates have scored at least 20 points in each of the first five games of the 2012 season and are coming off a 48-26 win against Danville. Cedarville, which improved to 3-2 with the win, led the Little Johns by more than 30 points before allowing a pair of late scores.
“We are pretty happy with how it is going so far,” Cedarville coach Mark Shelton said. “We`d like to have a couple more wins but even we`ve been beaten we`ve played pretty well, especially offensively. The kids are really focused and have really improved a lot from last year.”
Cedarville is at Lamar Friday night.
