A River Valley doctor had his license suspended after investigators say they found a marijuana-growing operation at his house.
The Arkansas State Medical Board issued an emergency order of suspension for Dr. Jimmy Acklin at their meeting late last week, according to board attorney William Tryce.
Acklin, a family practice physician, was placed on indefinite administrative suspension at Sparks Health System during the investigation. He was also placed on administrative leave by the University of Arkansas Medical Science, where he serves as the residency director at Area Health Education Clinic in Fort Smith.
Acklin was arrested Sept. 13 at his home at 1535 Pleasant Mountain Drive in Van Buren, along with Jerry and Michele Thomas.
An indoor marijuana-growing operation was discovered in the basement, according to investigators. Drug Task Force Agents and Arkansas State Police say they confiscated nearly 20 guns, drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine.
Several River Valley agencies worked together to make the arrest, including the 21st Drug Task Force, Arkansas State Police, Alma Police Department, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Barling Police Department and the Arkansas State Parole Office.
Acklin pleaded not guilty to drug and firearms charges. A court date has not been set. He has been released from the Crawford County Jail on $7,500 bond.
