A Fayetteville man was arrested Tuesday night after police say he cut his wife’s forehead with a pocket knife while the couple’s children were present.

Shawn Spence, 34, was booked on suspicion of felony second degree battery and endangering the welfare of minors. He remained in the Washington County Detention Center on Wednesday on $535 bond.

The woman told officers Spence came home drunk and quickly became agitated. Spence grabbed a knife and swiped it through the air, cutting the woman’s forehead above her right eye, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

The couple’s two children were present during the alleged attack. The woman called police, who arrested Spence at the scene and collected the knife as evidence, the report states.

The woman was not seriously hurt.

Update: Spence’s bond has since been reviewed and increased to $6,500
