Springdale police arrested a babysitter Thursday, accusing her of abusing a baby that was in her care.
Melissa Renee Medema, 27, was caught on a “nanny cam” abusing a 1-year-old child, police said. The child’s parents contacted police, and Medema was arrested at 10:20 a.m.
Medema is being held in the Benton County Jail on suspicion of felony first degree endangering the welfare of a minor. She has not yet been officially booked, so no bond amount has been set, according to a detention center deputy.
The baby’s parents were suspicious of Medema, so they set up a hidden camera Oct. 8, said Kevin Lewis, public information officer for the Springdale Police Department.
There were no other children involved, and the child was treated for a bruise, he said.
