Tang Sister Dominate in 7A West Tournament
For the past two years Rogers junior Tiffany Tang has owned the 7A West singles title. Coming into the season it looked like she would win her third straight singles conference title, but that wouldn’t be the case. Instead of competing in the singles, Tiffany joined her sister Katherine in doubles.
“They are both quality players,” said Rogers head coach Matt Fulton. “I knew if you put them together it was going to be a strong seed. I knew they would have a chance to win if they played well, and they did. They proved that they were up to the challenge.”
Tiffany and Katherine dominated throughout the two-day tournament dropping only one game in four matches. They defeated Bentonville’s duo of Tabler and Shah in the finals to take home the title. This was a special win for the sisters.
“It’s really awesome,” said Tiffany Tang. “Its one thing to win by yourself but to win it with your sister it’s something special.”
“It’s amazing to know she is there with you and that she always has your back,” said freshman Katherine Tang. “It’s so much fun and it feels so good to win especially with my sister.”
While the Tang sisters led the way for Roger’s, it was Sophomore Haeleigh Long, who Coach Fulton hailed as his MVP. Long who played doubles most of the year, made it all the way to the finals in the singles before being brought down by Alye Darter of Rogers Heritage. In the end it was a total team effort that brought the 7A West Conference Championship home to Roger’s.
“We had a really good experience, it was so much fun,” said Haeleigh Long. “We played really well and our team placed first because all of our singles and doubles teams made it really far. Winning and not tying this year was really special.”
“With all the points we were able to mass together it was enough for a conference title,” said Fulton. “It took us all to make it happen. I am very proud of all my girls.”
Roger’s heads to North Little Rock on October 15th and 16th to compete in the State Tournament.
