A truck driver was airlifted to the hospital Monday night after a fiery wreck in Decatur.

An 18-wheel box truck wrecked near the Simmons Feed Mill on Highway 59 near Highway 102. The truck was traveling on Highway 59 when it ran off the road and burst into flames, according to a state police trooper at the scene.

The wreck likely would have been fatal if a good samaritan had not pulled the driver from the vehicle, the trooper said. The good samaritan was uninjured, but the driver was hospitalized with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Arkansas State Police and emergency crews from Decatur responded to the scene shortly after 9 p.m., according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and the Gravette Police Department.

Police were still diverting traffic from the scene into the night. Several agencies responded to the crash, including Decatur Emergency Management Services, Decatur Fire Department, Gravette Emergency Management Services, Gravette Fire Department, Decatur police, Gravette police, Gentry police, Benton County Emergency Management Agency and the state police.
