A woman was sent to the hospital Friday morning after her car collided with a passenger train at Main Street and Hewitt Road in Johnson, according to a police dispatcher.

The passenger train had left Springdale at 8 a.m. and was en route to Van Buren at the time of the accident, according to Johnson police.

Officers said as the train made its way through Johnson, a woman driving a black Toyota Matrix collided with the train around 8:45 a.m.

No passengers on the train were injured, but police said the woman driving the Toyota was sent to Washington Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, and is expected to recover.

Police said in any situation like this the train always has the right of way. However, the accident occurred in an area with no marked crossing gates to block traffic.

The train later continued onto its final destination in Van Buren.
