Man Airlifted to Hospital After Accident
A Missouri man was airlifted to a Fort Smith hospital after a motorcyle accident Saturday afternoon on Highway 309 in Logan County.
Gary Baker, 69, of Warrensburg, Mo., was being treated for minor injuries at Sparks Health System. Baker and his wife, Janice, 65, wrecked and went over an embankment at 2:30 p.m. just south of the visitor center at Mount Magazine State Park.
Janice Baker was not injured, said Corporal Phillip Pierce with the Arkansas State Police, Troop H in Fort Smith. Janice Baker went to Sparks by private vehicle.
Gary Baker and the motorcycle ended up in a ravine, 35 feet below the road at the bottom of an almost vertical slope, Pierce said. Janice Baker fell about halfway down the hill before being stopped by trees, Pierce said.
“He was alert and conscious,” Pierce said of Gary Baker. “He’s going to be OK. He had some minor abrasions on his chest, his upper torso. Nothing really major.”
