Police arrested a Fayetteville man they say drove away after hitting a bicyclist with his pickup truck Sunday.

Jose Luis Ernesto, 25, was arrested on suspicion of felony leaving the scene of an injury accident. He remained in the Washington County Detention Center on Tuesday on $7,500 bond.

Ernesto’s Dodge truck collided with a female bicyclist at the intersection of Steele Boulevard and Joyce Boulevard in Fayetteville. The woman was treated at the scene for a minor head injury, cuts, scrapes and bruises, but she was not hospitalized, police said.

Officers later caught up to Ernesto at a Murphy USA gas station wiping off his front bumper. Witnesses later identified Ernesto as the driver in the incident, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Detention Center.

The victim identified Ernesto, and Ernesto was arrested at the scene, police said.
