Students at UA Fort Smith argued the pros and cons of medical marijuana on Wednesday.

Medical marijuana is on the ballot in Arkansas this year.

The six students debated the medical marijuana issue and the drug's effects before a room full of their peers.

The exchange became heated when one student compared marijuana deaths to alcohol deaths.

After the debate, a university representative says 35 students voted for medical marijuana and 32 voted against.

“The people in the audience vote by moving to one side or the other of the room, so the people who change their mind will change the aisle,” said Dennis Siler, Director of Honors International Studies.
