Springdale Motel Shooting Suspect Caught
Police arrested a suspect Wednesday night linked to a robbery and shooting at Springdale motel last week.
Julio Coronado, also known as Johnny Mata, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated residential burglary, first degree battery and criminal mischief. He remained in the Washington County Detention Center on Thursday awaiting a bond hearing.
Police said Coronado and an accomplice broke into the motel room at the Royal Inn on Oct. 19 and threatened a man with semi-automatic handguns. The man owed Julio for a large drug debt, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.
During the altercation, Julio pistol-whipped the man in the head and fired a shot near him into the ground, the man later told police. Another shot was then fired into the TV.
The man left the motel room without calling police and was treated at Mercy Hospital in Rogers for a head wound. Springdale police were called to the room in reference to shots being fired. Officers found a broken TV and blood on the carpet. They were also able to recover bullet fragments, according to the preliminary report.
Police received a call of a male with a head wound at the hospital. Officers responded and interviewed the man, the report states.
Officers later arrested Coronado during a traffic stop in Springdale and arrested him. His suspected accomplice, Johnny Vital, remains at large.
