Good Samaritan Returns Bag of Cash to Owner

A Fort Smith grocery store employee returned a bag of cash to its owner last Saturday.

A Fort Smith grocery store employee returned a bag of cash to its owner last Saturday.

“In this economy you don’t see that kind of thing happen very often,” said John Gordon.

Gordon believes in miracles.

“If it hadn't been for that young man I would have been pretty tight for a while,” he said.

Saturday Gordon was shopping at A to Z Variety in Fort Smith. He accidentally left a bank bag with $2500 cash in a shopping cart.

“I said we probably won't ever see that again,” said Gordon.

Employee Biagio Tumminello was working Saturday.

“I walked up to it and noticed it was a bank bag and my heart already started to thump a little bit,” he said.

Tumminello found the cash. “I just wanted to get it out of my possession as fast as possible,” he said.

Tumminello gave the money to his boss. “I would want somebody to do the same for me,” he said. “My father always taught me if it's not yours you just don't take it.”

Gordon went back to the store when he realized the money was missing.

“He gave me a hug,” said Tumminello. “He said did you look inside of it. I said yes sir I did and he just gave me a tighter hug.”

Gordon got every dollar, every cent, and every check back.

“The young man did the right thing and I think the Lord blessed me and he'll bless that young man,” said Gordon.

Gordon hopes to one day return the favor. He said one day, he wants to take Tumminello hunting, and maybe even buy him a rifle.
