Halloween is days away, and children everywhere are dreaming of what costumes they’re going to wear for trick-and-treating. Mom and dad worry about the cost.

If you know what to look for, you can celebrate Halloween without compromising on costs.

Laura Kyrouac, who works at Halloween Express in Fort Smith, explained that you can find Halloween costumes for less than $20 if you’re willing to get creative.

“Use a black cape and go with being a vampire,” Kyrouac said. “The black cape is $9.99. Vampire blood – $2.99.”

Throw in vampire teeth and the costume is complete for about $15, an acceptable price in the current economy.

“Five years ago, [the economy] was booming,” Kyrouac said. “People weren’t afraid to spend their money. And now they are.”

Another idea is to make your own costume with things you have in your closet. Familyfun.com is one of several websites that lists costume ideas that will cost you close to nothing.

A few inexpensive ideas: Miss Universe, complete with a homemade sash or a spooky skeleton costume.
