Bearcats Pounce Pottsville In Upset
Funny what can happen in a year’s time.
A year ago, Pottsville rolled into Booneville and evoked the mercy rule on the Bearcats.
Friday night the Apaches made the trip to Booneville but this time the No. 3 ranked Pottsville left with a 30-22 defeat.
The win put the Bearcats in the driver’s seat for the 4A-4 title and earned Booneville McDonald’s Team of the Week honors.
“It was a big win for us,” Booneville coach Scott Hyatt said. “We’ve struggled against some of the tougher teams this year with turnovers. Friday night the kids made the big plays when we needed to.”
Junior quarterback Cody Harrell ran for two touchdowns and also threw the first two touchdown passes for the Bearcats all season. His 26-yard field goal gave Booneville a two possession lead late in the game. To add to his big day, he added a two point conversion and an extra point. Harrell had a part in all 30 points Booneville scored.
“We had a really good week of practice,” Harrell said. “We prepared really well for it. We’ve had some trouble getting focused for games and we did a lot better for that. Kind of sat around and think about the game and what you are going to do. We came out and played together as a team for the first time I think all year.”
