A Fayetteville woman sustained a broken left wrist, two black eyes, head lacerations and bruises after being hit by a car Saturday morning.

Beth Napier, 57, was walking west on Howard Nickell Road near the intersection of Salem Road when she was struck at approximately 9 a.m. by what a witness described as a small silver SUV that sped off after the collision. Napier was flipped in the air and hit her head on the curb, said her daughter-in-law Leanna.

Leanna Napier said the SUV’s driver’s side mirror was knocked off during the collision and was recovered by Washington County sheriff deputies. Deputies said Beth Napier was walking toward traffic on the far side of the road when she was struck from behind.

Deputies said Beth Napier was taken by ambulance to Washington Regional Medical Center where she was treated and released.

“She’s very bruised up,” Leanna Napier said. “She was very lucky, to be honest. She didn’t see or hear him or her coming. It was all a shock.”

The Washington County Sheriff Department is following up several leads. Beth Napier’s husband, Ron, is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the driver of the SUV that struck his wife.
