CNN projects Arkansas voters will shoot down the medical marijuana proposal on this year’s ballot.

With 89-percent of the votes in:

48-percent voted for medical marijuana.

52-percent voted against medical marijuana.

Medical marijuana opponents are pleased with the results of Tuesday’s election.

Opponents worried about the cost of the program and also worried about how the state health department would regulate if the proposal passed.

Medical marijuana supporters told 5NEWS legalizing the drug would have been life changing for some.

“It really kind of flew under the radar,” said Benton County Judge Bob Clinard. “I really didn’t think it would be this close.”

“I think we’ll see it come up again,” said Daniel Balls, a medical marijuana supporter. “I don’t think this is the last time it’s gonna come up.”
