Fort Smith police arrested Marco Oregon-Gonzalez on Saturday after they said he hit another man on purpose with a Mercury Mystique on Friday.

Oregon-Gonzalez, 21, turned himself in to police officers and was booked into the Sebastian County Detention Center. He faces a charge of aggravated assault.

Police said Oregon-Gonzalez was the driver of a car that purposely ran down James Lyons, 18, on Ridgeway Drive. Lyons was hospitalized with head and leg injuries.

The police said Lyons and Mike Oliver, 18, were walking down Ridgeway when they hollered at a passing car to slow down. The driver of the car, whom police said was Oregon-Gonzlaez, made a U-turn and approached the pair at a high rate of speed.

Police said Lyons and Oliver attempted to flee the car, but Lyons was struck after running into a yard.

Lyons and Oliver were able to identify the passenger in the car as Elizabeth James, 19, police said. The police said they stopped the car later Friday and James and her mother were in the car.

Police were able to identify Oregon-Gonzalez as the suspect. Police said he is James’ boyfriend.
