Arkansas’ defensive woes returned Saturday.
South Carolina threw for 272 yards while adding more than 100 more on the ground as the Gamecocks posted a 38-20 win.
Arkansas trailed 14-10 late in the first half but were outscored 24-3 during a span of just less than 15 minutes. South Carolina (8-2, 6-2 SEC) got a 42-yard touchdown pass from Connor Shaw to Bruce Ellington with 1:30 left in the first half to blow open a close game.
South Carolina then added 10 points in the first five minutes of the second half to expand it’s lead to 31-10 after D. J. Swearinger returned a Tyler Wilson interception 69 yards for a touchdown.
Arkansas (4-6, 2-4) scored with 39 seconds left, a nine yard touchdown catch by Demetrius Wilson, to set the final margin.
Wilson finished with 277 yards on 26-of-41 passing with two scores and two second half interceptions. Arkansas also lost a fumble inside the South Carolina red zone.
Connor Shaw accounted for 282 total yards and three scores for the Gamecocks along with an interception.
Cobi Hamilton had four catches for 72 yards in the loss but become the school’s all-time leader in receiving yards in a season, passing Jarius Wright’s record that was set last season. Hamilton broke the single season receptions mark last week.
