A Fayetteville woman was arrested Monday after police say she confessed to being the driver in a hit-and-run accident earlier this month.

Erin Maglothin, 31, faces charges of first degree battery and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, according to Kelly Cantrell with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The charges stem from a hit-and-run accident during which a pedestrian was injured near the intersection of W. Howard Nickel Road and N. Salem Road around 9 a.m. on Nov. 3.

Maglothin remains in the Washington County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.

The pedestrian, Beth Napier, 57, sustained a broken wrist, two black eyes, head lacerations and bruises.

Maglothin was arrested on unrelated charges by Fayetteville police on Monday and admitted to being the driver of the vehicle during the Nov. 3 accident, a police report states.

Maglothin claimed she was addicted to pain pills and had fallen asleep at the time of the accident while driving.  She stated her vehicle hitting the pedestrian was what woke her, according to the report.

Her vehicle was located last week by Fayetteville police and impounded. Evidence seized during search of the vehicle corroborated Maglothin’s confession, Cantrell said.
