Firefighters early Monday responded to a fire that destroyed the inside of an older home in a rural area of Rogers north of Hobbs State Park, officials said.
The occupant had left the house at 8334 Rockwood Lane before 7 a.m. to run errands and was not home at the time of the fire, according to officials at the scene.
A neighbor phoned authorities to alert them of the fire, officials said.
The cause of the fire was unknown early Monday, but officials said it apparently started in a utility room.
Officials at the scene called the house “a total loss.”
Firefighters had difficulty fighting the fire because additions had been built onto the house over the years, giving the home three different roof lines, officials said.
