With holiday feasts right around the corner, some of us know we’re going to start packing on the pounds. In this 5NEWS Fit, Gabby Mooney with G-Fit in Van Buren tells us how to fuel our bodies with food every day, so it’s alright when we cheat a little over the next few months.

“Your body is designed to work with natural foods,” said Gabby. “The healthier you eat, the more natural you eat, the better you’re going to look.”

When you’re having an ice-cream craving, try freezing grapes. Frozen grapes are a great alternative for popsicles.

Are you in the mood for something salty? Gabby recommends for her clients eat a handful of almonds when they have the munchies. She says cocoa almonds also have a different flavor, but are low in sugar. For best results, she says to be sure and only eat one handful a day.

If you like a crunchy taste, snack on all natural oatmeal. You can even mix in all natural yogurt and fruit. Gabby says to make sure you get all natural though. This means no sugar added!

If you’re having a date night at the movies, skip the buttery popcorn.

“I think it’s 1,500 to 2,000 calories in one bag of popcorn at the regular movie theatre,” said Gabby.

She suggests getting a box of the 100 calorie bags of popcorn from your local store and popping a bag before you head to the movies. You may save a little cash and definitely the calories.

If you’re going out to eat at a restaurant, try a salad; however, getting a salad doesn’t mean you can load it up and still see results. Ordering the greens is your first step. The next step Gabby recommends is getting your salad without croutons, cheese, and other toppings that can add calories. When it comes to salad dressing, she says anything clear is better for you than ranch or other creams.

Even if you are working out, Gabby says if you’re not eating healthy, you still have work that can be done!
