Thanksgiving is just days away and a group of girls from the River Valley have a whole new routine to learn, before they put on the performance of a lifetime.

Ten seniors on the DIxie Belle's Drill Team from Southside High School are getting ready to head to New York to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

"They're very excited,"  Chambers said. "It's a fun trip, it's an annual trip. It's a tradition of the Dixie Belles to always go."

The Dixie Belles first performed at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1986 under coach Judy Lee.

Now, it's a trip that seniors look forward to once they first join the team, Chambers said.

But before they can leave, the girls have a few things to do first.

"It's football season still," Chambers said. "So we have a big game tomorrow night with Har-Ber. So we are performing. And we have a pep rally tomorrow."

Once they make it to New York, the girls will start practicing with all of the other drill team members performing during the parade. In total, more than 8,000 girls from across the country will be performing.

Meg Koenigseder, a member of the Dixie Belles, said the routine they will be performing is very different from what they typically do for football games.

"Since there's going to be so many girls there of different dancing abilities, they're going to change it around and make it versatile for everyone." Koenigseder said.

The girls do have a taped copy of the routine, but say they won't learn specific formations until their first practice in New York.

But for now, the girls are just focused on their next performance Friday night at Southside during the football game. Southside takes on Har-Ber at 7 p.m.
