Police arrested a West Fork woman they say stabbed a male family member before he began choking her.
Beckey Smith, 46, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of aggravated assault and felony first-degree battery. She was released from the Washington County Detention Center on Thursday on $5,000 bond.
West Fork police responded to Newlin Road in response to a disturbance, and noticed broken glass and debris at the home when they arrived, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.
A man was nursing a knife wound above his left knee and bleeding profusely. Officers called emergency responders, who later treated and released the man. He told police he and Smith were arguing, when she stabbed him with a kitchen butcher knife. The man then pushed her away in the neck area, he said.
Police located the woman, who had bruising and redness around her neck. She told police she stabbed the man after he began choking her.
A witness told police he tried to break up the fight, and wrestled the knife from Smith.
The woman smelled heavily of alcohol, and family members told police Smith routinely mixes pills with liquor.
