Taylor Strickland has been playing basketball since she was six years old. On Wednesday afternoon all her hard work paid off when she signed her national letter of intent to continue her career at the University of Kansas City. This is a dream come true for Strickland.
“It’s really a blessing.” Said Strickland. “I was excited all day. People I didn’t even know where coming up and congratulating me.”
With the pressure of signing over Taylor can focus on her senior year. She is looking to pick up right where she left of last season. As a junior she broke the school records for points scored in a single season and free throws made. With these records set Taylor was her eye on breaking other records.
“She wants to be our career scoring leader.” Said Roger’s Head Coach Preston Early. “She wants to set rebound records as well. She raises the bar continually and the thing you like about her she is never satisfied.”
While seeing her name in the Rogers record books is exciting for Taylor, the most important thing she wants to accomplish this season is with her teammates.
“A conference championship, that’s what we play for everyday when we come out here.” Said Strickland. “That’s what I want to achieve before I leave Rogers.”
The Mounties kick off the season Saturday when they travel to the University of Arkansas Monticello to face Drew Central.
