Millions of Americans will be traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and the number of people who leave home for the holidays has been growing every year for the last four years.

According to a report by the American Automobile Association, the increase isn’t by much.

AAA's report breaks it down by region. The East South Central region's overall travel is projected to increase .8 percent relative to Thanksgiving 2011, car travel is expected to go up by 0.6 percent.

However, air travel is expected to decline by 1.7 percent.

"I think flying out there, you get there in one day, and then you get to spend as much time as you can efficiently in New York," said Jake Thiede, who’s traveling with his girlfriend.

According to the AAA report, filling up the tank will take less money. The national average is $3.52 and the price of gas is expected to continue to decline during the holiday season.

"It helps us at this point having it around $3 is a lot easier than having it at $4," said Joey Stevens, from Springdale.

Even though budgets remain tight, this holiday's motivation is a bit different since the focus is family.

"It seems like a lot of people come here for business or live here for business, so that's why I moved here. My folks aren't here or any family so that's why we are traveling," said Thiede.

Close to 44 million travelers are expected on the roads and by air.

The report includes travel of 50 miles or more away from home between Wednesday and Sunday November 21st.
