Human remains found earlier this month in Logan County have been identified as a man who went missing more than two years ago, according to the sheriff’s department.

Dental records were used to identify the remains of Marvin Hixson, Chief Deputy David Spicer said.

A hunter found Hixson’s remains in a wooded area off Short Mountain near Paris on Saturday, Nov. 10.

“He came across obviously what he immediately identified as human remains,” said Spicer.

The remains were sent to the state crime lab where they were identified, Spicer said. “So far that, the cause and manner of death are still pending,” he said.

Hixson went missing in 2010, according to Spicer. Investigators say he was 52-years-old at the time.

The hunter who says he found Hixson told 5NEWS he was headed to a deer stand when he saw the bones.

Investigators say they went back to the area where Hixson disappeared and searched several times.

“We'd even called in search dogs to look for him,” said Spicer.

Spicer says Hixson was spotted at a convenience store the day his disappeared. Investigators say Hixson was also accused of trying to break into a home that same day. “The residents there called in that they believe someone was trying to break into their house and of course when they, I guess confronted the intruder he left on foot,” said Spicer.

Investigators do not suspect foul play.

“It is nice to finally have some type of closure,” said Spicer. “At least you can have services and lay him to rest properly.”

The sheriff’s department says they had not had any contact with Hixson or any reports involving him up until the day he disappeared.
