A driver involved in a two-car accident Monday in Fort Smith is facing drug charges when he gets out of the hospital, according to police.

A Fort Smith officer attempted to stop Raushaud Chatman who was driving a silver passenger car for a traffic violation near South 16th when the vehicle sped away.

The officer pulled back from the pursuit because the Chatman was being reckless, according to Sgt. Brian Rice.

Police were later dispatched to an accident on Jenny Lind and South T just after 3 p.m. The silver passenger car collided with a red Ford Expedition.

Chatman had to be rescued from the vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where a hold has been placed on him for several charges including possession of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and fleeing from police, according to Sgt. Daniel Grubbs.

A woman driving the red SUV sustained minor injuries.
