Crews have a fire under control that threatened some farm buildings on the outskirts of Lowell late Thursday afternoon.

The fire on Lewis Place started out as a grass fire at about 4:30 p.m., then spread quickly, according to the Lowell Fire Department.

Fire departments from Lowell, Rogers and Hickory Creek responded and had the fire under control by 5:08 p.m.

Several engines, tankers and at least one brush truck responded to the scene, but departments were delayed while trying to find a way to connect the water supply to the fire.

The fire threatened a house and barn, as well as a wooded brush area. The Rogers Fire Department reported one structure had burned, but there was no visible structural damage at the scene.

The fire departments called for the forestry commission to examine the fire because of its proximity to wooded areas.

A firefighter said the grass fire may have been caused by an out-of-control bonfire.

Fire crews began leaving the grass fire scene at about 5:30 p.m.
