Shoppers Get an Early Start on Black Friday Sales

The holiday shopping season is in full swing after stores nationwide opened their doors on Thanksgiving Day.

Shoppers at the Toys "R" Us on Rogers Ave. in Fort Smith began lining up at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Ryan Ryals was the first person in line at this location. Ryals and his wife, Crystal, have one child with another on the way. He said he was waiting in line to buy diapers. The Ryals' said they expected to save about 70 percent on diapers during the Thanksgiving Day sale.

Other popular items on the shoppers' lists included electronics, gaming consoles and other toys.

The shoppers said by taking advantage of the deals on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, they expected to save a lot of money.

Many shoppers said they didn't mind waiting in line on Thanksgiving Day because they planned to celebrate the holiday on an alternate day.
