A Smithville man was arrested twice in a 17-hour stretch after police said he vandalized his ex-girlfriend’s yard and car and then drove while intoxicated.

Yancy Farmer, 25, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday after witnesses called police to report a vehicle traveling west in the eastbound lane on Highway 412. The caller told police the vehicle pulled into a residential driveway, according to a preliminary police report.

An Arkansas State trooper arrived at the residence and a man identified as Farmer smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking and driving on the wrong side of the road, the report said. The report said two witnesses who said Farmer had run them off the road arrived at the residence.

After the trooper placed Farmer under arrest, the officer said he found two bags of what he believed to be marijuana and mushrooms, the report said. The report said Farmer registered .14 percent on a breathalyzer.

The legal alcohol limit while driving in Arkansas is .08 percent.

Farmer faces charges of driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance. He was released on $4,840 bond and has a February court date.

Farmer’s difficulties weren’t over as he was arrested by Fayetteville police at approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday for an incident as his ex-girlfriend’s house the previous evening. A preliminary police report said Farmer’s ex-girlfriend and boyfriend heard loud noises in the backyard of their residence at approximately 5:20 p.m. on South Van Buren Avenue.

The woman recognized Farmer pulling up plants from her plant bed but Farmer told her he had permission from the landlord to get some plants, the report said. The woman noticed damage to her car and her boyfriend’s car, the report said.

When the woman went to call police, the boyfriend came outside and Farmer left, police said. Damage to the plant and the vehicles’ tires was approximately $1,900.

Farmer was booked in to the Washington County Detention Center and faces a felony charge of criminal mischief and has not been given a bond amount, according the sheriff department’s website.
