A Springdale man faces charges of aggravated assault and domestic assault after police said he attacked his sister’s black boyfriend with a box cutter and a machete.

William Runion, 39, was arrested at approximately 12:40 a.m. Friday after police responded to a domestic disturbance call at North Kansas Street in Springdale. A preliminary police report said when officers arrived, Runion was holding a machete and Ronnie Davis was holding a bat.

Davis told police that Runion was “acting crazy and calling him racial names” and had pushed Gina Runion to the ground, the report said. Davis told police he got upset and the two began to fight and William Runion cut him on the side with a box cutter, the report said.

The report said William Runion then got a machete and threatened to cut off Davis’ head so Davis got a bat to defend himself. The report said two people witnessed William Runion push his sister to the ground, and one said he saw William Runion hit his sister in the head.

The report said Davis sustained a small cut on his side that did not require medical attention. Gina Runion told the officers her brother did not like the fact she was dating a black man and had pushed her down twice while they were arguing.

William Runion was released on $5,000 bond and has a Dec. 26 court date.
