Police arrested an elderly man they say grew 30 marijuana plants in his Fayetteville home before harvesting them.

Joseph Brodacz, 72, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. He was released from the Washington County Detention Center on the same day.

Fayetteville police received an anonymous tip that Brodacz had marijuana at his residence on Willow Avenue. When officers arrived, they noticed a strong smell of marijuana, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police searched Brodacz’s home and found 20 pounds of marijuana, 97 one-gallon plastic baggies, scales and $1,936 in cash, the report states. Brodacz later told detectives he grew 30 potted marijuana plants over the summer and harvested the plants.
