A Lincoln man faces a felony charge of aggravated assault on a family member and a misdemeanor charge of third-degree battery after police said he grabbed his wife by the throat Friday night.

Aaron Suttle, 38, was arrested and booked into the Washington County Detention Center and has a bond set in the amount of $3,500, according to Sheriff Department’s website.

A preliminary police report said Rebekah Suttle, Aaron’s wife, called police to report he had been abusive and was armed with a gun. The report said the wife said she had come home from work and tried to rake small limbs into a fire her husband had made and was moving some wood he had cut when he told her to stop.

When she didn’t stop, Aaron Suttle grabbed his wife and when he let go, she went inside their home, the report said. Aaron Suttle followed his wife in and, when she said she didn’t want to talk, he put her thumbs in her mouth and pulled out at the corners of her mouth, the report said.

The report said Suttle later put his wife in an arm bar before grabbing her throat with his right hand. Suttle’s wife told police he held her by the throat for about 10 seconds and she feared she was going to pass out, the report said.

The officer said he noticed red marks on the wife’s throat. The wife told police she tried to kick her husband and yelled for help from her 13-year-old son, at which time Aaron Suttle left the house with a shotgun, the report said.

The wife locked the doors and hid in the bathroom before calling police, the report said. Rebekah Suttle told police her husband had been abusive in the past, the report said.
