'Tis the season to enjoy Christmas lights from the comfort of your car at the Washington County Fairgrounds drive-though display of twinkling lights.

"We just want it to become where they start bringing their children now and when they are teenagers they still come out because there's something new every year," said Ken Abernathy, president and CEO of Big Hats Consulting.

Abernathy said the goal is to one day make it an extension to the Lights of the Ozarks in the Fayetteville square.

Big Hats Consulting, the Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission and the Washington County Fairgrounds board have teamed up to bring this colorful display to life for a second year in a row.

"They have loaned a lot of old products that they aren't using anymore that we are starting to use and incorporate in until we can do more with what we are raising out here,” Abernathy said.

There's everything from a Christmas train to a Razorback and farm animals. Cassie Drake, who is the creative designer, said she wants visitors to be surprised.

"Keep it so they are not just one thing here and one thing there, just separate it to make it more interesting,” said Drake.

They want visitors to take their time and enjoy the beauty of the lights.

"I just want people to take with them memories, more than anything," Drake said.

The Longing family, from Springdale, even stopped to take pictures.

"I like the lights because they’re a bunch of them and they are really cool," said Audrey Longing, 9.

Her mom Marla Longing said, "Our kids love getting out and seeing the lights so I think it be something we'd enjoy every year."

The organizers plan to keep expanding the drive-though holiday lights for years to come.

"We do want it to become a tradition," Abernathy said. "Eventually, we hope it will become an event where people come out, there's much more and there's hot chocolate."

The display is open Friday through Sunday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. until December 22. The cost is $5 per car.
