Jon Woods and Christina Mitchell are engaged to be married.

Woods, a Republican state senator-elect from Springdale, popped the question Saturday night (Dec. 8) at the fountain at James at the Mill in Johnson, and she said, “Yes.”

Mitchell, 25, recently moved back to this area after receiving a master’s degree at Florida State University in Tallahassee. She’s an academic advisor at NorthWest Arkansas Community College.

A marriage date hasn’t been set but will occur after the legislative session, which begins in January, Woods said.

The mill has special significance for the 35-year-old Woods, whose office is nearby. He recently helped unveil a Civil War marker at the historic site.

Woods, a state House member from Springdale, defeated Sen. Bill Pritchard, R-Elkins, in the May primary election and beat Democrat Diana Gonzales Worthen in the Nov. 6 general election for the District 7 seat encompassing Springdale and parts of eastern Washington County.

Woods isn’t the only Northwest Arkansas legislator with marriage in the near future. State Rep. Duncan Baird, R-Rogers, is marrying Courtney Campbell on Saturday (Dec. 15) at The Garden Room in Fayetteville.
