After city construction sent its members packing, a Springdale church will soon have a new home, at least temporarily.

The Springdale City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to grant Victory Church a temporary location at Ozark Center Pointe Place shopping center.

“Regardless of whether we have a location or not, the city has given us until Feb. 1 to be out of the facility,” said Victory Church Senior Pastor Billy Coffman.

A new interchange at Don Tyson Parkway is forcing Victory Church to leave its home of more than 20 years.

Coffman said the city has not helped pay for the relocation.

“First of all, we really feel like that the city of Springdale is responsible for our move,” Coffman said.

Mayor Doug Sprouse said the city plans to pay relocation costs, but the land wasn't valued as high the church wanted.

“So now, as you go through the condemnation process, we can continue to negotiate," Sprouse said. "And ultimately, if it does go to judge, then the court will ultimately decide what that piece of property is worth."

Coffman said the church asked for more time to move out.

“And if they did anything to help us prematurely, it could mean that they could lose the possibility of getting funds from the state or the federal government to help with the project,” said Coffman.

“We gave them as much time as we felt like we could give them to ensure that there was no more delay on actually beginning work on the interchange," Sprouse said.

The church has plans for a new building in Tontitown.
