A 27-year-old Roland man was killed on his birthday after he was hit by a vehicle struck while he walking in Sequoyah County Saturday night.

A vehicle driven by a teen was travelling west on Highway 64 near Cottonwood Road when it crossed the white line on shoulder of roadway and hit Lacey, according to Roland Chief Tommy Sessums.

The police department will turn their accident investigation over to the district attorney’s office who will determine if any charges are filed against the teen, the chief said.

The accident happened around 8:05 p.m.

Wesley Mandigo, who was walking with Lacey at the time of the accident, said he and his friend were walking back from the Cherokee Casino in Roland. They had been celebrating Lacey’s birthday.

Lacey graduated from Roland High School in 2004 and studied at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, according to his Facebook page.
