A Van Buren truck driver died in a semi accident in Madison County, Fla., east of Tallahassee, Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Daniel G. Moses, 39, crashed into a pine tree around 1 p.m., after losing control while driving eastbound on Interstate 10. Moses reportedly crossed the median and two lanes of westbound traffic, before impact.
The driver was only identifiable by his driver’s license photo, family members said. No one else was hurt in the crash.
The victim’s wife of 11 years, April Moses, tells 5NEWS investigators suspect her husband had a heart attack behind the wheel. It appears he died from head trauma caused by the wreck.
Moses will be cremated at a Florida funeral, according to his mother-in-law Betty Hallman. His remains are expected to arrive back to his family in Arkansas next week. A funeral service will be held at Ocker Funeral home in Van Buren.
Moses leaves behind two children, 3-year-old Jasmine and 8-year-old Jacob.
An account under “Daniel Moses Funeral Fund” has been setup at Arvest Bank to help pay for funeral expenses.
The semi-truck is registered to John Christner Trucking out of Sapulpa, Okla., southwest of Tulsa.
Since the crash was likely caused by a medical condition, April says the company will not pay to bring the body back to Arkansas.
The trucking company issued the following statement after Moses’ death:
“An accident occurring December 8, 2012 in Madison County Florida, took the life of one of our valued lease operators, Daniel Moses. April Moses and her two children have suffered the loss of a loving father and husband. The collective heart of JCTs associates go out to the Moses family, friends and the community that cherished Daniel.
Daniel has been an independent contract operator with JCT since January 2008 and has professionally driven more than 400,000 miles, providing safe and on time service during his tenure with us. We have lost not only one of JCT’s finest, but one of the industry’s true professionals.
The details surrounding the accident are not yet clear. The authorities are still investigating and have not released even the cause of Daniels death at this time. JCT is cooperating fully with authorities in order to get to the very important answers the Moses family needs in order to bring them some measure of closure.
Daniel’s contract with JCT required an occupational accident policy that has provisions for both an initial payment and an ongoing survivor payment for the future. We are working with the insurer and the Moses family to facilitate these benefits in a timely manner and to make sure Daniel is returned home to his loved ones as soon as possible and we are committed to doing what is necessary to make this happen.”
