After four years as head coach of the Mena Bearcats, coach Jeff Weaver is heading to central Arkansas.
Weaver accepted the head coaching job at Little Rock Christian. The Warriors are in class 5A.
The Greenwood native spent 12 years at his alma mater as an assistant before taking over the Bearcats the past four years.
“Little Rock Christian got in touch with me,” Weaver said. “My wife and I were highly impressed with the school and the fact we could put our kids in a Christian environment everyday was a big deal to us. They have shown a commitment to going out and building a good football program.”
Weaver led the Bearcats to the playoffs each of the past three seasons and he said it was tough leaving the area in which he grew up.
“My time at Greenwood was great,” Weaver said. “Being at my alma mater and coaching there for 12 years and we had such great success. The people here in Mena are just unbelievably good to us. I am really proud of what we’ve been able to do with the program the last four years. It has been a lot of fun and it’s hard to leave but the opportunity was just too great for myself and my family.”
