Girl In Wheelchair Airlifted After Springdale Crash
A young girl in a wheelchair remained Monday in the Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock with life-threatening injuries following a car wreck in Springdale on Sunday night.
Sara Reagan Christians, 7, was airlifted to the Little Rock hospital after being seriously injured in the one-vehicle crash at the intersection of Old Wire Road and Randall Wobbe Lane at about 6:30 p.m., a family member told 5NEWS.
Sara is listed in critical condition at the hospital. She suffered a life-threatening head injury, as well as non-life-threatening lacerations to her liver and spleen, the family member said.
The car’s driver, Claire Smith, was transported to Northwest Medical Center in Springdale with broken shins, a broken right foot and cracked ribs. Smith is listed in fair condition.
Police said the adult was pinned between the seats and the child was in the back seat unconscious but breathing. Authorities have not released the cause of the crash.
Police said Smith drifted off the roadway. There was nothing Smith could have done to recover the car after is left the roadway, police said.
The driver was not intoxicated, and she faces no criminal charges, according to the Springdale Police Department.
