A new board of directors now leads the city of Fort Smith. Thursday night four men took an oath to serve the city.

“I'm excited. I'm glad to finally get to this point,” said Mike Lorenz, Ward 3 Director.

Lorenz takes Don Hutchings’ seat on the board. He hopes to develop Ben Geren Park and the Riverfront.

“Really want to see some downtown growth and do what we can to make that better and make it easier for developers to operate in Fort Smith,” said Lorenz.

Keith Lau is also new. He replaces Steve Tyler on the board.

“Look at the economy to see what we can do to make it more friendly for businesses to do business with the city of Fort Smith and economic development,” said Lau.

Director Andre Goode ran unopposed this election. He primarily represents people on the north side of town.

“We're talking about you know a pet park, you know soccer fields. There's a lot of things in the works right now,” said Goode.

Voters re-elected Director George Catsavis. He is excited to serve another term.

“I want to see the Chaffee area grow, really grow,” said Catsavis. “There's a lot of potential there and I think it'll be the economic engine of Fort Smith.”

Each director will serve a four year term.
