A Fayetteville man faces a felony charge of second-degree domestic battery after police said he admitted to repeatedly punching his pregnant girlfriend in the face.

Mornett Ferguson, 24, was arrested by Fayetteville police Saturday night and booked into the Washington County Detention Center, according to the Sheriff’s Department website. Ferguson has a $5,000 bond and a Feb. 4 court date, the website said.

A preliminary police report said that officers were investigating a domestic disturbance complaint at an apartment complex on South Curtis Avenue when a man approached and told them his daughter had been hit. Officers went to the apartment and found the woman, identified as Vanessa Young, with several cuts on her face and lips and bruise around her left eye, the report said.

Young told officers she was five months pregnant with Ferguson’s third child and that the couple had been arguing earlier in the day, the report said. During the argument, Ferguson punched Young “numerous times” in the face, the report said.

The report said Ferguson admitted striking Young several times. The report said Ferguson was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery and endangering the welfare of a minor in August 2012.
