Interactive Web Producer

5NEWS has an immediate opening for an Interactive Web Producer in Fort Smith. The successful candidate will have a journalism background and excellent command of the English language (spelling, grammar, punctuation).   This is an overnight/early morning shift, and the right person will help produce news on multiple platforms throughout the morning.  We’re looking for a competitive and aggressive journalist who will react to and post breaking news quickly and accurately.  This position is self-directed to generate, research and write original stories. •

Core Job Functions:

  • The ability to write and post a wide range of hard-news stories quickly
  • Monitor the station’s newscasts and mine other information sources for news and distinguish newsworthy stories for our Web and mobile platforms
  • Capture and edit still images and video to post
  • Develop and maintain meaningful news contacts
  • Must be able to come up with new story ideas everyday  
  • Other news duties as assigned, including producing segments for television after a training period

 

Minimum Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Working knowledge of WordPress, Photoshop and other Web posting software will be a big plus.  The ability to write professional news copy quickly and accurately is important.  Excellent spelling and attention to detail is a must. The candidate must possess a valid state driver’s license (or be able to get one).

Education Requirements:
A college degree in English, journalism, interactive media, communications or a related field is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
The candidate must be physically able to type and work at a computer, and must be able to handle the stress of a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
