The Rogers High School assistant principal was recognized in a surprise ceremony Monday afternoon.

Lance Arbuckle was named the state’s Assistant Principal of the Year. The Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators presented Arbuckle with the award.

They credited his leadership role, open-door policy and placing students first.

Arbuckle said he wouldn’t have gotten this award if it weren’t for the teachers.

“Our role as administrators is support,” Arbuckle said. “The meat and potatoes is what happens in the classroom and the teachers on the front lines of that working with students and getting students what they need to be successful.”

Arbuckle is the third administrator to be honored by this award at Rogers High School.

Assistant Principal Karen Highfill was the Assistant Principal of the Year in 2012 and Principal Robert Moore was the Principal of the Year in 2012.
