A Springdale man accused of injuring two jail deputies in a struggle was finally booked into the Washington County Detention Center after being admitted to a state hospital a year-and-a-half earlier, according to a Sheriff’s Office sergeant.
Raymond Moss, 40, was booked Jan. 3 into the Washington County Detention Center on suspicion of aggravated assault, possession of a controlled substance and battery on an officer. He remains in the detention center.
Moss was arrested in May 2011 on suspicion of aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance. Moss allegedly chased a man and threatened him with a three-inch pocket knife. The man told police Moss threw the knife at him multiple times.
When police arrived, they found 6.6 grams of marijuana on Moss, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Detention Center.
A month later, Moss attacked Deputy Clinton Crews in the jail’s N-block, according to a Sheriff’s Office investigative report. When Crews tried to force Moss into a nearby hallway, a struggle broke out, with Moss attempting to elbow several deputies, including Crews and Deputy Kevin Baughman, the report states.
Crews and Deputy Michael Wright were injured in the struggle. Wright sustained a sprained right knee, according to the investigative report.
Neither deputy showed visible marks from the altercation, but both complained of pain and swollen knees.
Moss was sent to a state hospital the following month and stayed there until he was booked Jan. 3 into the Washington County Detention Center, according to a Sheriff’s Office sergeant.
