A Pea Ridge police officer who was struck by a car Thursday night is expected to be released from the hospital soon, according to the police chief.

Officer Joey Ferris, 28, was called to work a one-vehicle accident along Highway 72 when he was struck by a passenger car at about 6 p.m., said Tim Ledbetter, chief of the Pea Ridge Police Department.

“He’s doing good, last word I got it looks like he will be able to be released and sent home before the end of the day (Friday),” the chief said.

Ferris was rushed to the hospital after the accident. He did not suffer any broken bones as far as Chief Ledbetter knows.

The officer was standing at the edge of the road, near Barris Lane, when the passenger car struck him at an unknown speed. Arkansas State Police worked the crash site.

Chief Ledbetter does not expect the driver to be cited in the incident.

“No alcohol was involved, it was dark and raining,” he said. “Two people were in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Officer Ferris has been with the Pea Ridge Police Department since Aug. 2010.
